Q. What size of bag and bulk volumes do the logs come in?
A. The options are:
Handy size net of kindling
Handy size net of logs - Approx 15 logs
1m3 (1 cubic metre) - Bulk builders bag
Q. Are the logs seasoned? Is it seasoned firewood?
A. The logs are seasoned before delivery to you – cut, split and air dried in an open shed and checked with a moisture meter prior to dispatch. We believe we provide the best logs for wood burning stoves.
Q. When do you deliver?
A. We arrange delivery when you place your order with us, aiming to be as time specific as possible so you don't waste your time waiting. We always endeavour to accommodate individual delivery requirements.
Q. Can we cut the logs in different sizes and lengths?
A. We are very aware of the multitude of stove designs and fireplaces from a small 6” opening to a contemporary / modern guillotine style stove up to a metre wide.
Standard logs are cut to 8" in length.
If you require log lengths greater or smaller than this, please let us know well in advance so that we can prepare them and have them seasoned in time for the colder weather. Some sizes require more work to produce, particularly smaller logs and there is an extra charge for this service. Please phone or contact us to discuss your needs.
Ideally we would like customers to start thinking about their wood fuel needs before winter starts so that you can plan your deliveries.
You can spread deliveries out over the winter to make sure you always have a supply of seasoned wood logs to suit your needs and storage facilities.
Please phone for advice or to discuss your needs with us.
Q. Where does the wood come from?
A. All of our wood comes from sustainable Larch forests grown and harvested in Central Scotland in accordance with our ambition to produce top quality eco logs with a minimum environmental impact. Sustainability is an important aspect of our decision to source this particular wood for your logs.
The forests we source from are managed in accordance with environmental certifications from The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – an international system for certification of foresting that has the support of many environmental organisations (to ensure chain of custody).
The forests are also an important part of the ecosystem in which we all live. They bind carbon dioxide and give off the oxygen essential to life.
Important facts about the FSC are that the fibres in the product – your logs - can be traced back through the production process and that they meet the demands set for FSC labelling at all stages.
Q. What Quantity of Logs should I order?
A. We deliver your logs by volume (loose metre cubed = 1m x 1m x 1m) which is a fairer and more constant measure than weight. The weight of wood reduces as it dries out due to the seasoning process. Buying by volume ensures you and everyone else get the same amount of logs.
The amount that you buy can be influenced by your budget and by your storage space.
With the option to buy from 1m3 up to 10m3, we think there is a load size to suit most people. Remember that when stacked it takes up less space.
We also sell handy size nets of logs and kindling.
Q. Will the cost of firewood logs and wood fuel go up?
A. It is comparably more stable than fossil derived fuels at the moment!
Since starting in the supply of logs, we have seen the cost of the raw material increase. This rise is driven by supply and demand. As we move closer to sustainability targets set by the government in this country and elsewhere in the world, we can expect to see a rise in price in wood.
Remember than burning wood is carbon neutral, emitting the same amount of carbon that the tree absorbed when it was growing.
Q. I have an old fireplace I am thinking of opening up to burn logs. How do I know it is safe to use?
A. We recommend having your chimney swept and inspected by a reputable chimney sweep who is qualified and registered, particularly if you have not used the chimney before, or if it has been used for a gas fire in the past.
